Prison Programs

Ready, Willing & Working has long recognized the critical role family connections play in the successful reintegration of formerly incarcerated individuals and in breaking the cycle of recidivism. By extending our efforts to include fathers who are currently incarcerated, RWW is equipping them with the tools and support needed to build meaningful, lasting relationships with their children. This approach not only boosts their confidence but also inspires them to reenter society as responsible, devoted fathers and citizens after their release.

READING PROGRAM

The Reading Program uses reading to build relationships between children and fathers and uses their desire for a relationship to motivate them to keep reading together. Since they can’t be together to read, we facilitate long-distance reading by using audio and video recordings of fathers reading to children. Children experience the thrill of a new book every few months, often the only books they own. About 1,200 children each year are encouraged and excited to read more often because they received book recordings from their dads.

CHILDREN’S DAY

Children’s Days with Dads are special events with a variety of activities in the prison’s visiting room where children, fathers, and mothers/other caretakers can participate as a family. The event provides meaningful and fun-filled, prison-based events that gives the entire family a chance to spend the day together enjoying art, games, reading together and much more.
